The little electric that could

As you most likely guessed, this blog was created to try to figure one thing out. Whats the best exotic or modern muscle car in the u.s.a for the price? (obviously im against Obama's strong push on alternative fuel sources) lol. And since i really love big blocks and huge gas guzzling engines that'll get you from 0-60 in the sub-4 second range, im going to go ahead and get out only car that doesnt use gas out of the way. You're probably asking yourself, why is he putting a hybrid in a blog like this. Well actually its not even a hybrid. It's the new 2009 Tesla Roadster, which actually runs 100% on battery. It goes from 0-60 in under 4 seconds, and goes up to 220 miles on a single charge!!!!!! AMAZING!!! It also has a top speed on 125 mph. It charges to 100% battery capacity in only 3.5 hours, less then your remote control car that lasts only about 20 min. The watermelon sized battery that moves this amazing machine generate up to 250 horsepower and 276 pound feet of torque!!!! It's not cheap though, coming in at $105,000. And you won't be getting next day shipping with a waiting time for this car of up to 9 months. It comes in 13 different breathe taking colors and offers over 20 different types of interior colors. As for safety. This is about as safe as you can get, having everything from ABS brake system to all traction tires and traction control. Another point to bring up with safety is that theres no motor anywhere. So if you get hit straight on or anywhere you wont have to deal with a 500 lb engine ending up on your lap thats 600 degrees and has parts moving at over 8,000 rotations per minute. Thats a major thumbs up.
So basically for around the price of a new viper, you can get the same performance, more safety, have that smile that says "im glad im saving the enviornment", and the most unique car on the road.
On the down side, you wont get that gruntle of the 10 cylinder engine, and you wont be able to go past 125 mph.

  1. I'm surprised they actually managed to make a 100% battery operated car, but it must be very unsatisfying not to hear it roar (not to say hard to drive if you're used to shifting by audition), and 125 MPH does seem pretty tame, but lets face it, for a street car you shouldn't be doing much more then that anyways, because as we all know we're all good and perfectly behaved drivers who drive safely and on the speed limit ;)

However I do have some criticism in part for Tesla motors. Why not a dealer here?

But seriously speaking, my biggest criticism is that they are not offering this car with a petrol engine. I know the chassis was designed so as to not have a conventional engine, however, i find the lack of foresight before making an amazing car like this and completely resigning from putting a real engine in it mind boggling. It's hard to understand why they would do this all-together. I don't think it is a smart idea to put the most sophisticated electric engine on the market on a sports car. They should add this to a sub-compact, since thats the kind of car the people who buy electrics will buy anyways.

What also bothers me about this car is it only has 3 gear options. 1, 2, and reverse. This seriously bothers me. It scares me that the future of cars is not going to allow us to have the same control we have on cars today. I personally enjoy speedshifting my car, heel-and-toe cornering, bliping my torque to burn residue on my pistons. And I personally think this would take the fun out of it.

It does seem to be a good car, however it doesn't strike my fancy. I would much rather buy the dodge viper and have a smile on my face because screw the World.

  2. i agree with most of your comment.
however, i can see exactly why they used the battery only for this.
I mean what if your one of those tree huggers, like ms stoklosa, lol. I'm sure she'd love this car, and so many more people are going "green". I don't understand why we don't just have have fun with the world we have now, and forget about the future, we're pushing back the inevitable. But whatever.
And the electric only allows 2 gears because it pushes huge ammounts of rpms. An average car pushes around 8,000-10,000 max. This car pushes almost 20,000 rpms. And they havent found a way to make the electric battery to be powerful enough to go faster without being way too back heavy for practical useage.
The weight distribution of this car is almost 30% front, 70% rear as it is.
But i'm all about engine roar and the thrill of the big block v8's and v10's in the viper's case.
