Pontiac's best ever

Well, on my first post we talked about the Tesla electric Roadster. In this post we're gunna actually get into some of my kind of cars. This whole blog was created to find the best overall performance car in the u.s.a for the price. And a couple months ago i saw this commercial. Most powerful car for under $30,000. And hey that fits this blog perfectly! Incase you haven't figured out what car im talking about it's the new 2008 Pontiac G8 GT.
Let's go over it awesome performance numbers first. It hits 0-60 in a solid 5.4 seconds, and hits the 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds. Pontiac's designers finally seem to have found the right combination, blending the now non existent gto and grand prix. Inside line claims it to be the best pontiac ever. I wouldn't say so, seeing as though the gto in 2004-2006 had 400 instead of the g8's 361. But i guess engine power isn't the only thing to everyone, just me. lol. They claim this car will be under 30,000. That can be misleading. For 30,000 you get the engine and a base car with small rims and cheap rubber. So for around 33,000 you can have an astounding car that can tear up the track with a 65 mph slalom test speed, on the drag strip with awesome power and on the normal roads with its perfect balance of stiffness and give from the suspension. It also comes in over 5 different exterior colors, and options are abundant.
It might not be as mind blowing of a car as the Tesla Roadster, but for $60 something thousand dollars less, i could live with it.

  2. I think that the Pontiac G8 is a very sick car. My friend has it, but it is not the GT. The one he has is black and it is quite fast. I can't imagine the GT version. I think this was a good idea from Pontiac and hopefully it gives them a ton of sales.

  3. The G8 09 doesn't particularly interest me, but i am amazed at how well this car is produced considering it is a subsidiary of GM. But it does make me sad that they focus on the G8 yet the 'Vette is still riding on spring leaf suspension like you see in 2000 year old carriages, cheap finish and weird handling, not to mention a clutch that feels like it was made by an American company (oh did i take it too far?) and a shift that weighs about 20 tons.

Although to be fair i haven't driven the new vette so i don't know the changes they made and if the car is actually drivable.

But what i DO like about this car is the slalom speed at 60 MPH. This gives me hope this isn't a car that is just made for racing forwards, but can actually handle a curve. Oh and BTW does the Tesla roadster come with standard traction control? And can you even turn it off? The Chrisler 300C can't, which angers me (totally unrelated but that should be something you should choose to turn on and off).

  4. Well Jordan, I really like the g35, the only thing is, sorry to admit it, but the g35 is just a fancy version of the 350(soon to be 370)z. So i'm not gunna be having an article about the g35, unless a few people comment that they want one. And in my opinion, the best overall muscle car being sold in the u.s is the new ford mustang gt500 for the price. But thats not going to be my number one car on the list of best buys. You'll have to keep following my blog posts to see just what i think is the best bang for the buck.

  5. Hey Dan, I think i know who you're talking about, and yeah, it is a very sick car overall. The GT is a really cool, but not mind-blowing car performance wise, but facts are it is an amazing investment.
And yeah, i hope it helps Pontiac. I love pontiac.

  6. Did you drive a vette from ancient history?
The corvette always has been one of the best sports cars in the history of american cars. How else would it still be around after almost 50 years?
And the suspension of the g8 actually isn't that great compared to others. Test track actually revealed it's handling weak points, like a bit too much body roll.
The Tesla does come standard with traction control and you can turn it off.
So hey, if you were a tree hugger you'd love the tesla. lol.

  7. Too bad i love the smell of polluting the world 1st thing in the morning :)

No the vette wasn't from ancient history, and it was one of the funnest cars to drive, those were my only complaints really. I personally love the vette, sadly i don't have enough money to even look at one :(

  8. There are so many cars. Over all i love muscle cars the most too. Just the sound of them alone and power behind the wheel is something thats not easy to find.
